    Hardware  
 

 

  • Batteries. Respect charge and discharge processes and do not work for long periods (several hours or days) with the battery inside the computer and the computer connected to the mains simultaneously to avoid decrease of its useful life.
  • Downloads. Never use your computer for insecure downloads from the Internet. You will be in dager of viruses, spyware, adware, ... and all the harm they can do.
  • Backup copies. Make backup copies regularly to prevent the loss of information due to security faults or accidents.
  • Maintenance. Complete defragmentations of the hard drive of your computer every now and again will increase its useful life and data access speed.
 
    Hard Drives  
 
 
   
  • Capacity. Seek the best value for money/capacity for the volume of information to be stored.
  • Speed. This value should be as high as possible 7200 rpm is a standard value.
  • Mantenance. Periodically perform complete defragmentation processes to increase its useful life and data access speed..
  • Comunication interface. The communication interface can be USB 2.0 or FireWire(c) 400. USB 2.0 is recommended, because the FireWire(c) port will normally be in use by the video camera.
 
   
 
    Cables  
 


 
  • Quality. The cables supplied with the equipment may be of poor quality. Always make sure they are in good condition.
  • Redundancy. Keep spares of the most important cables (USB, FireWire(c), network connection, etc.) you may need because this is a relatively cheap component and they could break at the worst possible time and without them nothing works, so always have spares.
  • Maintenance. Cables last longer when they are treated properly. The best alternative is to roll them up very loosely or in the shape of the infinite symbol.
