When rugby coaches at Life University wanted to up their game, they looked for new ways to deliver more objective feedback and analysis to players

Located in an Atlanta suburb, Life University has a strong tradition of rugby dating back almost 40 years. But it’s only in the last decade that the campus has begun competing at a collegiate level.

Both their men's and women's teams are recent USA D1 champions and have made the division semifinals every year they've entered. Life's female squad also took the Division 1 7s title in 2016 and won back to back Penn Mutual Collegiate Championships in 2016/7, securing the university's reputation as one of the leading Rugby-playing colleges in America. Success on the field can be directly attributed to the ambitious young rugby coaching staff at Life, who - with the support of university management - were given the freedom to explore ways of progressing the team and bringing home more silverware.

Coaches were already using video as a training resource but wanted to add greater value to their feedback by tagging or statting games using performance analysis software.

After a period working with Sportscode the team decided to try an alternative and - as men’s coaches Colton Cariaga and Blake Bradford admit - Nacsport quickly became one of their most valuable rugby coaching tools.

While price point and support played a part, the flexibility and sheer depth of meaningful data Nacsport creates is what really influenced their decision to purchase.

“First of all, it allows us to view our coded film from STATS, with XML import. And it lets us tag players performance to create their own individual feedback of a game,” says Colton.

“We can then do additional work, coding games for our analytical sessions with the whole team,” adds Blake.

Former player and women’s head coach Rosalind Chou has also worked with Sportscode, but prefers the “Ease of use and great interface,” of Nacsport. For her Nacsport is the “Leader in the field of video analysis software for sports.”

“Video feedback helps to keep us improving as a team. It’s a valuable tool that allows us to evaluate performance - as a whole and individually - and deliver instant feedback for continued development,” concludes Chou.
