So, you’ve decided that video analysis will be beneficial to you or your club. You’ve checked out the market and decided on Nacsport. Good for you! You’ve chosen one of the most powerful pieces of sports analysis software available on the market today. Now, you only have one decision left to make… which version of Nacsport to invest in.

On the other hand, maybe you are already a Nacsport user who’s now considering upgrading to the next level. But your hesitant. You’re asking yourself, “Do I really need all those extra features?”

Well, this article (and the series of articles which follow), is for you!

We’re going to take you through each of the software packages available from Nacsport and we’re going to highlight the main differences between each level. Hopefully, this will allow you to make an informed choice.

First off, we’re going to talk about the Basic and Basic+ packages. Strap yourself in and let’s begin. It’s going to be a long one!

Nacsport Basic

Before we kick off with our comparison of the two products, take a look at this great little video by Josh Bryan of AnalysisPro for a quick overview of the main tools available in Nacsport Basic.

Nacsport Basic+

And for a quick look at the tools in Nacsport Basic+, check out this video.

Tagging Window and Analyzing a Video

Let’s begin with one of the most elementary features of video analysis software. The ability to tag actions when watching a video so that you can quickly and easily recall them for review later.

With our Basic program you have the ability to do just that. See a shot on screen? Click the “shot” button to register it on video. We give you 25 fully customizable buttons to play with in the Basic package.

We call these buttons Categories.

In the Basic+ package you are given 50 buttons to play with, and this time you can relate them to each other by adding what we call Descriptors. You can still tag a “shot” but what if you connect this to a player? Was it on-target or wide?

Allocate all these descriptors to separate buttons and you now have a tag which automatically reads “shot by John Smith, on-target, in the 36th minute, 3 out of 5”.

In this section, we should also mention the Play-by-Play Table and Dynamic Timeline.

The Play-by-Play Table is available in both Basic and Basic+ and allows you to keep track of your analysis in a chronological list of tags. You can also use this table to edit your clips on the fly by adjusting their length or adding, new categories, descriptors or notes to your tags.

The Dynamic Timeline, on the other hand, lets you see your analysis on an ever expanding timeline. You can also edit your clips on the Dynamic Timeline and it gives you a clear view of your tags in an easy-to-read format. The Dynamic Timeline is only available on Nacsport Basic+ and onwards.

Straightaway you can see that you have the basis for a much deeper analysis with Basic+. Do you need this depth? That’s for you to decide!

Let’s continue!

Data Matrix

Related to Categories and Descriptors, we need to talk about the data matrix which is only available in Basic+.

Simply put, this is a visual representation of your button presses when tagging actions within Nacsport. For example, you have a “shot” row and an “on-target” column.

Look for the intersection between these two and you can see all the actions tagged there and then quickly access those specific video clips.

Working with Video (Video Capture)

Ok, let’s talk about the types of video you can work with.

In Basic, you have two basic ways of working with videos. Firstly, you can import a video into Nacsport for tagging whilst you watch. Secondly, it’s possible to film the action live and tag actions with the program in real-time.

Basic+ contains these two elements, but we also add the ability to capture a signal from IP cameras. An extremely useful tool when watching a live event.

Basic+ also hands you the ability to merge videos. This means that if you have two separate video files with two separate analyses, you can join them together to create one seamless video which contains all your data in the file.

Whilst you can merge video in Basic, it is impossible to merge the data files.

Dashboard

Both versions of Nacsport have a dashboard, a place where you can get visual representation of your analysis. You want a graph showing how many shots on target your team has had compared to the opposition? You can create it here.

The big two differences between Basic and Basic+ are: (1) with Basic+ you can use Descriptors as well as Categories, which allows you to get deeper into your analysis and (2) you can create only one dashboard with Basic and two with Basic+.

Perhaps the biggest difference, however, comes in the interactivity of the dashboards. In Nacsport Basic, you can create nice looking visual dashboards, but in Nacsport Basic+, you can create interactive dashboards. What does this mean? Well, it means that your dashboards are connected directly with the video clips you tagged earlier. Click on any graph or label on the dashboard and you can view the relevant clips in the video player.

Compatibility and Sharing

XML files allow analysts to share their work quickly and easily across different platforms and programs. This is a supremely useful resource, especially for those that work in a team that analyses the same game individually on different platforms. In Basic+, you will be able import and export XML files.

Presentations

Both of the basic versions of Nacsport give you the power to create beautiful presentations and informative videos with fantastic visual effects.

Basic+ also gives you the ability to add audio to your presentations and exported videos. Want to talk directly to players, add an audio file at any point of your presentation.

Maybe you want to simply add a bit of ambient music to add some atmosphere to a video. Maybe even stick Ride of the Valkyries on there to get the team worked up before a game!

Price

Ok, finally, let’s talk about money.

There’s no getting away from it, for many non-professional users, price will be one of the key considerations when it comes to making this choice. We know that video analysis software is expensive but, at Nacsport, we pride ourselves in giving you more bang for your buck than any of our competitors.

Unfortunately, we cannot give you exact figure in this post, as that will depend on the currency you are using. We would suggest that you check our website for the price in your country.

That being said, let’s look at the different purchase plans that we offer for Nacsport Basic and Basic+.

Basic

Single payment annual subscription. Support and Update Service (SUS) included.

Annual renewal of license.

Basic Plus

Single payment or 3 yearly installments. Both options include Support and Update Service (SUS) until end of payment period.

Optional, but recommended, renewal of SUS after payment period ends.

Or

Single payment annual subscription. Support and Update Service (SUS) included.

Annual renewal of license.

Lifetime

Ok…let’s see if we can clarify this a bit more.

Basic can only be purchased through annual subscription. Once the year ends, you must renew your subscription to continue using the program.

With Basic+, there are some differences. You can choose between an annual subscription or purchase the software outright. If you decide to buy the license with a single payment, the license becomes yours and you will never have to pay for it again. However, we cannot guarantee that the program will work forever, as there are changes in third-party technology or changes in operating systems that we can't control.

That is why there is a payment for the Support and Update Service which, although not mandatory, is recommended to keep the software up-to-date and free of 3rd-party issues. In addition, you'll be able to get world-class support from our team at any time.

We believe the payment is worth it, but the decision is yours.

In the event that you decide to purchase the software by installments, the license is not be yours until you pay the last installment. The Support and Update Service is included every year.

If you decide to use the program through an annual subscription, the conditions are the same as for Nacsport Basic, ie. a new license must be purchased every year.

So that's the difference between Basic and Basic+. The choice is yours. You also have the option of upgrading your license at any time by simply paying the difference between the two pieces of software you are using.

Remember, you can get a free 30-day trial of any version of Nacsport.
